I remember this Music Director writing a couple of times into the ELP Digest - but until I saw/heard both of these vids I really didn't fully appreciate just what he'd accomplished:

And while I'd love to suggest that my local guy (to whom I donated the TSO prize) might give this a try, from what I heard of his students it's beyond their reach...

I remember the guy as well from the Digest.... I just wish Stan Crowther at Gateacre Comp would have been like this guy...

They're incredible! I love the way he's used the horns and xylophones to good effect with the other 'rockier' instuments...

Great stuff... they're going in my favourites!

That was amazing. Its like a mini Works tour, but in high school. What a great arrangement.

Sweet Jesus! That was absolutely incredible. They deserve some kind of award for that performance.

i was the "guest of honor" this past thursday for the cape coral h.s. spring concert. as their string ensemble opened the show, my comment in this post began ringing in my head... perhaps in hopes it would (at least mentally) drown-out what i was hearing (can you say "dissonance"?).

i keep coming back to these and just can't believe a bunch of high school band members pulled this off. it's really nothing short of incredible!

Tonight is the first time I've been able to watch these...the bandwidth via satellite internet is a bit ratchety for streaming vids so I usually have to hold off until I'm on land where the cable is :) This is incredible! These are some very talented kids...and I'm sure the music director is a damned genius to be able to get all of them to work together so well on such a complicated piece of music...man they were tight!

This reminds me of a Styx concert I saw on HDTV a couple weeks ago where they played with the Cleveland Youth Orchestra and Chorus...all high school age kids who played along with Styx like they've been doing it all of their lives. Absolutely phenominal...the level of talent so many young people have these days is mind boggling.
