All.

Just thought that you might like to know.... YAYYYY!!!! My leave from work has finally kicked in, and someone else is looking after my projects for a couple of weeks.

Sonar is open, and I'm just going through what I need to get done musically over the next fortnight.... good stuff!

And to cap it all... Milady is downstairs cooking dinner - fish, chips and peas! (...great with a bottle of Cotes Du Rhone). I almost feel like eating them out of newspaper to celebrate!!!

Thoroughly looking forward to the next two weeks :D

How cool is that!!! Fish and Chips!! There you go!! I recall (VERY FONDLY) my time in Europe and in particular Germany, where I would get chips (fries here in the states) and they would come in that paper "cone" along with a Brat with brown mustard..........damn!!!! those things were HEAVEN!!!

One day before long (before I get too old to do it) I've got to get back to Europe.....Geezzz we had the time of our lives there!!

Drunker than young skunks (and a few other "recreational things") all 5 of us were singing Beach Boys songs under the Eifel Tower at 4:30 in the morning while the tourists walked by us shaking their heads.......THAT was living!!

You know... Milady said to me earlier that you guys from across the Pond wouldn't know what I was talking about when I mentioned 'fish and chips' in paper... RF - you have my deepest respect, matey! :-)

In Liverpool (as with most other places in the UK), fish and chips have been historically served from 'chippies' (local chip shops) and wrapped in ordinary newspaper (to keep costs down... chippies would buy papers not previously sold from local newsagents shops). The food became a late night treat on the way home from the pub, or even a staple (if not slightly unhealthy diet), if you have it every night, for the lower income families. Sprinkled liberally with salt and vinegar, it has become a classic British treat.

Don't even mention fish, chips and mushy peas! God....! If you ever get anywhere near Blackpool, Lancashire, get to the bus station and visit the little cafe there. They do a GREAT FC&MP!!!

I am familiar with the ol' fish n chips. I did spend some time in the UK when I was in the service, I was in South Hampton for a few days and spent a week or so in Hull.

I never ate any though as I dont eat seafood. I'll bet its good though!

It is, trust me. You should have tried the chips and mushy peas on their own... still gorgeous! G.

I'm looking forward to giving 'em a try!!

There's a small place called Mazzoni's in Louisville, Kentucky - They make a very "strange" dish (at least to some). It is called a "Rolled Oyster". Basically they take a handful of raw oysters and roll them in breading (sort of makes a softball-sized ball) it is then deep fried and served with fries.......you may not believe it.....but it is OUT OF THIS WORLD!!!

Any time we were booked into that city - that's where I headed when we had a little "down" time.....providing of course it was an "R" month.

I have had fish n chips in newspaper!!! That's the traditional way of serving it from a small fish n chips stand isn't it? And then along comes some health freak who says the ink in the newspaper causes health issues so we better stop serving f & c like that...ohhhh BALLOCKS to the health freaks! Tradition is where it's at!

And for the rest of you guys from the New World...chips = fries...crisps = chips...bisquets = cookies...and fags = cigarettes...and so on and so forth. :) Don't you just love it?? Two great nations divided by a common language...hahaha.

And I will add that the term "fanny" has a completely opposite meaning in the UK than it does here in the US...and by opposite I am referring to which side of the body upon which it is formed....and in UK it is limited in reference to women's bodies because men don't have fannies. ;)

A female friend met and married a guy from UK whom she met here in the US. Prior to their wedding, which they held in England, she met her new in-laws for the first time and made a terrible impression the night before their wedding by stating that it was so cold out on their balcony that she was freezing her fanny off. Not exactly something you want to say in mixed company, particularly with your in-laws to be.

But they got even with her later by asking her, "What time would you care to be knocked-up in the morning?"

You broke the code, MarkE! :) So when Kathy told her in-laws to be she was freezing her fanny off...well...they had cause for offense...hahaha. I suppose it would be very similar to a woman over here stating that she is "freezing her c*nt off".

Oh dear. Then I suppose the old 80's English adult film "Fanny Hill" was a more risque title than I realized. You know, back then I was dating this girl who had an amazing pair of headphones. hehe

Graham - I actually was made aware of Fish and Chips being served in newspaper when watching Asia's "Road to Budokan" in 1983. In preparation for the "Asia in Asia" satellite broadcast, they did a piece on the four members (which included Mr. Lake at the time). Geoff Downes was eating them in newspaper and explained that it was traditional to be served that way.

This is no joke. After reading this thread and responding, I went to check e-mail and had a notification that "Fanny" wanted to be added as a myspace friend. Is this a sign from above? Should I accept? Fanny = Good. LOL

They certainly do, although smoking is a dying art over here. In fact, from today, it is illegal to smoke in confined public spaces. This even covers over 400 bus shelters around the Merseyside area.... light up in one of those, and its an immediate

You're right about Tommy's board. Chalk it up to the benefits of running your own system.

One time we got in a wee bit o trouble over there, Dave and I. Or was it Dave? Or was it me...I dont remember. Oh..I thnk it was David. He posted a pic of some smokin chick with huge boobs...we made a comment or two and (I think) it was Rebecca, who was all over us like stink on sh*t. Perhaps David can shed some light on this as I lost all of my brain cells sometime back in the 60s.

Anyway... I do remember that it was innocent, appropriate for all ages and we still got stomped on. So be it. I havent been very active on that board since.

yup, it was me - i think it was one of my desktops of denise (milani)... i considered it very tame (except for the way the woman is built, which i can't help) but it really got rebecca's panties in the proverbial wad.

hey, speaking of denise - she's going to be at the chicago glamourcon in late august... i really hadn't even considered going, until i saw this absurdly cheap airfare from here that weekend (<$100) - so i bought it, and will get to meet her and get a pic with her. can't wait! :D

Well, this one just might blow you guys away, so I will pose it in the form of a question.

Just got back from Omaha (played there tonight) and had an interesting experience. The guy who owns the club we played at is (like us) a huge TSO fan....he was telling me tonight that he had read (although he couldn't remember just where he had read) that TSO wasn't going to tour this year. Apparently there has been something of a rift between the principals....now, if this is true...(and I can't confirm) it might explain all the delays on the release of "Nightcastle"......

Any one you guys know anything about this?? True or No???

Hope he is wrong........

i hadn't heard anything like that, but it's certainly a believable scenario.

i'm seeing jane, al, and tommy in cleveland weekend-after-this - but it'd probably pointless to ask (i suspect there's a "circle the wagons" mentality - if there is a problem they'll say there is no problem... and if there is no problem they'll say there is no problem).

i just hope the powers that be in tso realize they're becoming something of a joke with all of the "nightcastle" promises they've made over the past 4-5 years. then again, maybe not...

First off.....Happy 4th everyone!!

Now, on to the "question" du jour.....

Look, David, it's nothing personal with me (I'm sure you know that)...I really am a HUGE TSO Fan...they really make my Christmas....but I think we all have to admit that this has been going on since BLN and the "supposed" tour that was to follow.....

I am nowhere in the league that these guys are in, but I have been associated with the music biz (in one form or fashion) for nearly 40 years and I know that the cardinal rule is "Strike While The Irons Hot".

These guys have been riding the proverbial high for several years now. Folks really love 'em....and (IMO) they are seriously hurting themselves (whether this latest "rumor" is true or not) with many of their fans....same show (pretty much) year after year -promises of more tours (BLN), etc etc....

Shoot, I'll go and see them no matter what (provided of course that they actually come back this year) but, in all honesty, they are begining to resemble Chip Davis and Mannheim Steamroller.......

Again, have a Happy 4th!!!!

i actually concur completely. tso sort of reminds me of the rock 'n roll fantasy camp - it could be so very much more that it is if it was only managed better (and i mean that more in a visionary sense rather than a detail, organizational one).

but my guess is that even if they keep blowing goodwill people will continue to put up with it. why? as you say, it's become a christmas tradition - much like going to see the nutrocker (i.e. you know what you're going to get). but when you consider untapped markets worldwide (they've never traveled as tso off of the north american continent) i suppose they can keep this dog-n-pony "nightcastle" show running ad infinitum and still get away with it.

btw, the mannheim steamroller analogy is a good one - when i'm trying to describe them to somebody new i'll usually compare against them, except to say that they are rockier/edgier - in sort of a broadway fashion (which usually results in some puzzled looks).

RandallFlagg

Yep...know exactly what you mean....It's for sure that I don't understand the deal, but what the heck!! Like I said, IF they come either here or Denver - My Wife and I will attend (maybe both).

But in all honesty - I WISH I had their "problems".......

I'd be touring every city in North America and releasing an album every 6-8 months (if feasible). You only go around once - or so I have found out the hard way....

Well, it's sort of a long story (I'll give the short one)....

In 2000, My Wife and I were skiing in Vail and on a whim we ventured over to a little town (on the way to Aspen) called "Minturn". As it happened, we ran across a 61/2 acre lot for sale and we fell completely in love with it. Has a little brook running through the back and a GREAT view of the Aspen trees and mountains. We bought it immediately and it has pretty much sat there until recently.

Last year we FINALLY built our "retirement" home there (but we haven't completely retired yet) so we spend every vacation and several weekends a year there.....God is it HEAVEN!!!

Additionally, we have good friends in the little town of Georgetown and we see them anytime we head out that way.....

We plan on making it permanent within a year or two (hopefully)....

Hey that's really cool! I'm familiar with Georgetown and Aspen. When I was a kid, between my junior and senior year of high school, my cousin and I performed menial labor at the Eisenhower Tunnel on I-70 when it was still under construction in '72. I fell in love with that area, Dillon, Breakenridge, Copper Mountain, etc. Never had the opportunity to buy any land up that way though. My cousin lives very near to Blackhawk/Central City. Me, I'm a Gulf Coast urchin lately...hahaha.

Hey David!!

Just to bring back an old subject.....I was wondering if you had heard anything about TSO this year?? Are they a go or no-go?? Seems a little strange, and I have no knowledge whatsoever, other than what that club owner hit me with, but it sure seems strange that there isn't much going on on any of the "regular" TSO boards....granted, it is Summer and all, but still, it seems eerily....quiet.....I thought maybe that Al or Jane might have "spilled" something?????

RF

Hey RF, sorry I never replied back.

I did casually mention it to both Jane and Tommy (separately)... both scoffed at the idea and speculated it's fueled by the delays in recording/releasing "Nightcastle". Jane said she and Al begin rehearsing for the next TSO tour (at home) in mid-August, then go to NYC for band rehearsals followed with mid-October down here for full rehearsals before the shows start right after Nov 1.

They both looked me in the eye and sold it well - either they're both really adept liars, or nothing is amiss that would jeopardize a Winter 2007 tour. At this point, I'm thinking it's the latter.

Great! I was hoping that it was so much "scuttlebutt".....and, hopefully it is! But still, it does make one wonder.....why it would take all this time to release the Nightcastle CD.....it must be one helluva production!

Anyway, thanks!!
