This is not really a joke, rather it is more like nostalgia (I just couldn't figure out a better place to post this), but it is kind of entertaining to look back across the years to see where our heads were a few decades ago. I recently watched a DVD with some of the old Ed Sullivan Show episodes on it, and back in those days the TV ads were done by someone right there on Ed's stage...but occasionally you would see a studio-made ad.

One of the ads that stood out for me is an Excedrin commercial. We all know that Excedrin is just another pain reliever commonly taken for headaches...but in this mid-60s TV ad they were advertising that Excedrin also helps relieve symptoms of DEPRESSION! I had to laugh out loud to think that in todays world, that statement would bring on massive lawsuits...not just from the general public, but also from the big drug makers...such as Prozac! LOL.

Ok, so without further ado, check out where we were about 4 decades ago...maybe a little longer.

Camel Cigarettes:

Man, the audacity of that sort of slaps you in the face! However, truth be told, back when this ad was made, it was probably the truth. Sure smacks you on the jaw now though, doesn't it?

And how about THIS...I would have NEVER imagined Lysol being used for THIS:

I wonder if she used Pine Scented Lysol, or what?

In todays world, doing something like THIS may not get your face slapped, but if you were feeling lucky to score, you will probably miss out...

This pic requires no commentary:

And I'm sure that nutritionists today would see THIS and have a heart attack just reading it:

Oh, and we can't leave our cousins from across the pond out of this either...

And just as a refresher I will add that the term FAG pertains to Cigarettes!

And of course back in the 60's, Coca Cola wasn't the ONLY thing that Jolly Old Elf was selling during the Christmas Season....

And lastly...here is this somewhat subtle warning about STDs, even though back then nobody knew what STD meant...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v354/LarryC/Old%20Magazine%20Ads/VD.jpg

Of course back then it would be improper to use the term, CONDOM. Isn't it rather "sexist" how the implication here is that VD is apparently transmitted ONLY by WOMEN? They conveniently overlook the fact that she had to get it from SOMEWHERE!

Yeppers...we've come a very long way...

If a women needs to douch with lysol, she's got more problems than just indifference!

I was thinking the very same thing. Similarly, the thought crossed my mind that using Lysol for douching probably introduced any number of female troubles. Thank God for Summer's Eve, eh? LOL.

Remember these?

Remember when the word 'Sugar' was common in cerial names? Since the 60's, Sugar Pops became amazingly more healthy by renaming it Corn Pops. And Sugar Corn Flakes became Frosted Flakes LOL. There are several products that under went a name change like that but those are the first the come to mind.

LOL @ the Wheelie Bar commercial...now-a-days parents would be aghast at the lack of helmet and elbow/knee gear!

A little fun advertising trivia test for ya...

And (Mark will hate me for this but...) anyone recall Marky Maypo? I gave Mark shit for years when we were kids over this one http://www.homestatfarm.com/history_marky_maypo.php

Those Maypo commercials are priceless. My son named his little boy "Mikey" and I can't say his name without remembering the LIFE Cereal commercial...LOL.
