You guys who have known me for the past few months know that I'm a freak for Hamer guitars...and I tend to make it quite obvious...lol. Well...I came very near to crossing over to a PRS this week as one of my myspace pals (Swampman, who lives a few miles from me) offered to sell me his Vintage Cherry PRS Soapbar II SE for half the price he paid for it. I was really mulling it over too...but today while the little lady and I went to our local music shop to pick up a hardshell case for my Hamer Standard which I aquired a couple of months ago, I spotted a new guitar on the rack that really caught my attention...actually it caught Tess's attention which makes it even BETTER because THEN it looks like it was HER idea to get it instead of MINE...thereby relieving ME of the responsibility of a compulsive acquisition. ;)
To date I have the following in my collection of Hamers:

This was the first one...quilted top with crown inlays on the fingerboard, bound body, neck, and headstock, with abalone inlaid all around. After I had this one for about a month I experimented with changing out the generic pickups to a pair of Seymour Duncan 59s and I am majorly impressed with it all the more.

This was the second...picked it up in the same shop as I did my Standard...it was a scratch & dent sale item. It has a very small chip on the edge that is not visible while I'm playing it...and could be repaired for about $100 or so, but it's no big deal because I got this one for a song anyways. It still has the Hamer generic pickups in it but they sound good enough for my ears.

And of course here is the Standard that eluded me for a couple of months through Music123.com...but then my local music shop came through for me with a deal as sweet as the one on line would have been had they ever shipped the damn guitar to me.
Ok...I mentioned my friend's PRS Soapbar II...for the uninformed, the reference to "Soapbar" is to the P-90 pickups. My local shop has had a Hamer Gold Top with P-90's on it for a while which I have been sort of drooling over because those pickups are really cool sounding. The Gold Top has been the only model which Hamer has offered with the P-90s for quite a long time, but today THIS was hanging on the wall:

The wife saw this thing and said..."I WANT THIS!" I played it and it has the same great sound and playability as the Gold Top, but I really like that Flaming Honey Sunburst a LOT better than the Gold Top...and obviously so does Tessie. WOOHOOO!
Of course, in HER mind, this is going to be HERS when we get it off of layaway...HAHAHA. She KNOWS who is going to be playing it though...but for now she says it is HERS. LOL.
I LOVE MY WIFE! It started like this with almost every guitar that has been purchased to date...she's just that way. But it's great by me because I know where it is going to end up. DAMN SHE'S FINE! LOL.
Now I must "officially" decline the PRS from Swampman, but that's ok, I'm a real Hamer sort of guy, you know. ;)
