You guys who have known me for the past few months know that I'm a freak for Hamer guitars...and I tend to make it quite obvious...lol. Well...I came very near to crossing over to a PRS this week as one of my myspace pals (Swampman, who lives a few miles from me) offered to sell me his Vintage Cherry PRS Soapbar II SE for half the price he paid for it. I was really mulling it over too...but today while the little lady and I went to our local music shop to pick up a hardshell case for my Hamer Standard which I aquired a couple of months ago, I spotted a new guitar on the rack that really caught my attention...actually it caught Tess's attention which makes it even BETTER because THEN it looks like it was HER idea to get it instead of MINE...thereby relieving ME of the responsibility of a compulsive acquisition. ;)

To date I have the following in my collection of Hamers:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v354/LarryC/Hawk%20Studio%20Forum/SATQ.jpg
This was the first one...quilted top with crown inlays on the fingerboard, bound body, neck, and headstock, with abalone inlaid all around. After I had this one for about a month I experimented with changing out the generic pickups to a pair of Seymour Duncan 59s and I am majorly impressed with it all the more.

This was the second...picked it up in the same shop as I did my Standard...it was a scratch & dent sale item. It has a very small chip on the edge that is not visible while I'm playing it...and could be repaired for about $100 or so, but it's no big deal because I got this one for a song anyways. It still has the Hamer generic pickups in it but they sound good enough for my ears.

And of course here is the Standard that eluded me for a couple of months through Music123.com...but then my local music shop came through for me with a deal as sweet as the one on line would have been had they ever shipped the damn guitar to me.

Ok...I mentioned my friend's PRS Soapbar II...for the uninformed, the reference to "Soapbar" is to the P-90 pickups. My local shop has had a Hamer Gold Top with P-90's on it for a while which I have been sort of drooling over because those pickups are really cool sounding. The Gold Top has been the only model which Hamer has offered with the P-90s for quite a long time, but today THIS was hanging on the wall:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v354/LarryC/Hawk%20Studio%20Forum/SATFP90.jpg
The wife saw this thing and said..."I WANT THIS!" I played it and it has the same great sound and playability as the Gold Top, but I really like that Flaming Honey Sunburst a LOT better than the Gold Top...and obviously so does Tessie. WOOHOOO!

Of course, in HER mind, this is going to be HERS when we get it off of layaway...HAHAHA. She KNOWS who is going to be playing it though...but for now she says it is HERS. LOL.

I LOVE MY WIFE! It started like this with almost every guitar that has been purchased to date...she's just that way. But it's great by me because I know where it is going to end up. DAMN SHE'S FINE! LOL.

Now I must "officially" decline the PRS from Swampman, but that's ok, I'm a real Hamer sort of guy, you know. ;)

I think the Hamer looks a lot nicer...this one plays and sounds pretty good though...I've played it before and really liked it!

Shhhh! You're not supposed to tell him that! The trick is to let him "think" they're his :D

Well...it does get a little tricky here. You see, Tessie likes to collect things, like furniture and dolls, and you name it. Sometimes our house looks like an indoor garage sale with all of her collecting she does. One day I came home and my bedroom set was ALL different...and ALL from the Antique Shop where she used to work.

I think the thing she does for me with the guitars is to appease me so that I won't yell and holler at her whenever the furnishings are either all covered up, or all totally different. (I have decided that the furnishings get covered with clutter so that I won't see that they are different until they become uncluttered...sometime later LOL. Recently, all of the dishes were changed out...they were all white, now they are some vintage pattern with daisies and stuff...oh, and the old dishes, they are still in the kitchen in boxes waiting for the garage sale...or for someone else to be blessed with them.

Mark & I have a similar deal going...........

I don't care how much he spends on stuff - the more the better! Cuz everytime he makes a major purchase, I get the spend the same amount on something I want and vice versa.

I usually buy jewelry and/or computers.

It works for us! :D

Oh...I forgot to mention all of the old computer parts we have...ummm...CD ROMs, CD Burners, Hard Drives, RAM, computer boxes, etc...all of it used. LOL. Sometimes they come in handy though.

I donated my last computer to the Hawk Studio, and it was practically new - only about a year old.

I just got this one in March and I'm ready for another new one - maybe a laptop this time LOL (I see another Carvin in Marks future)

Well, now I fully understand why I we got that guitar today...she just showed me some oil paintings that are in one of our bedroom closets...BIG FREAKIN oil paintings...Elizabeth, Empress of Austria...a Blue Boy...and a Strawberry Girl by Sir Joshua Reynolds...whoever the hell that is. SHE knows who they are and when they were painted too....jeeesh....LOL

BTW, her account is in a bit of limbo right now and Mark is looking into it, otherwise she would be telling you all about this...LOL.

PS She just told me that the original painting of Strawberry Girl was painted in 1770s or 1780s, and Sir Joshua Reynolds died in 1793. (Damn, I sure hope these are just prints...LOL...OUCH!)

Whewww...you guys are really hooked up! We are about 6 ft apart here in the computer room as well. Before we moved into this house we had 4 up and running on a LAN...one was a dedicated server box, but we were on dial up back then so it wasn't like the best damn network you ever saw. We have cable here so it's really sweet!

I have my corner of the computer room dedicated to musical endeavors...but soon (I hope) I will have one of the bedrooms upstairs for all of that.

We used to have TV in the livingroom, computer room, and the master bedroom...we've had one of the satellite receivers shut off so now we only have it in the master bedroom and computer room. Our guest bedroom is wired up for TV as well (with it's own receiver) but we haven't had it turned on.
