As it stands right now...and it could change at anytime, and the change could be significant, but at this point isn't likely to be too significant.

I pulled these images from Wilkens Weather Technologies (the service I use when offshore) and overlaid the track of the storm with date/time info.
As of Sunday I will begin evacuating the field which I live and work in by taking in non-essential personnel. The others will follow on Monday morning. When that is finished, I will have to pack up what I can at the base in Galveston and prepare to evacuate aircraft on Tuesday. The plan for now is to evacuate the helicopters to Conroe Texas which is about 20 minutes from where I live...but I don't really understand that idea because that...for now anyways...isn't really out of the path of the storm, but it IS about 100 miles inland. But, being that far inland didn't really seem to matter when Rita came through.
So, anyways...I think I am going to be "out of pocket" for a while...but we shall see... Some predictions are that it may turn northward after entering the Gulf of Mexico...just how far northward is anybody's guess...assuming that it turns at all. If it stays on the track in this model, the weather is going to be severe at my house because we will be on the eastern side of the rotation of the storm...which is where the most severe weather is spawned on these things.

via con dios, larry. perhaps more than anybody else in emp i understand exactly what you're dealing with. let's hope the forecast track holds true and the thing decides to do a gilbert and hit the basically uninhabited parts of mexico. but, with the ull sitting to the east of florida, my bet would be corpus or thereabouts. certainly not good for the houston area, but a helluva lot better than a direct hit.
do what you have to do, and let's hope it's all for nothing. thoughts and prayers are with you (which is easy to do because sometime in the next few weeks i may be asking for same if something like this is taking aim at me).
please keep us posted.

Thank you David, and welcome home btw. I'm glad you had a successful trip to help your daughter get moved and all seemed to have gone well.
I don't know what I did when I posted this thread but somehow it went up in duplicate...HAHA. It took me a little while but I finally figured out how to delete the other thread. Sorry for the duplicity.

Ahhh yea...Riding The Storm Out...a classic "pre-sellout" REO tune...back when they had a "cult following" before they decided to go pop! I suppose there was more money for them in the pop charts, but I think it was sort of a career-ending event as they sort of went away after a couple of pop albums...too bad. Or maybe they got too tired...?
Enough rambling...thanks Randall. I will accept all the thoughts and prayers I can get because I need all the help I can get! ;)
Another tune which comes to mind...and may be a sign of my age...is "Riders On The Storm" by The Doors....

I kinda missed this thread as I havent been around for a day or two.
Good luck Larry! Get those aircraft to a safe haven and buckle yourself down. Also, I got you cell phone message today. I have had the phone off for several weeks and just recharged it today. I have been off for several weeks and shut the phone down so that no one would bother me with work etc :) :) :)
Im still working on TOU and started recording YOTC today. After these I will do Against All Odds. I want to have my plate clear by the time David starts sending in tracks for CEM and Jerusalem. Really sweet bass line on YOTC by the way. I love it.
Best of luck my friend.

Hey Larry... I was telling my Sandra about this earlier...scary stuff (we heard a few stories from my Florida cousin when she came to visit last month, so for once us Brits here in Childwall were not complaining about the weather!).
Take it easy matey, and our thoughts will certainly be with with you and yours over the next few days...

I appreciate it guys. Dave and I have been going back and forth about this and it appears they are forecasting Dean to stay on a more southerly course than originally predicted. Of course, this is merely a guessing game at this point because once those storm systems reach the Yukatan, there is usually a period of indecision when the storm sort of tries to decide which way to go from there...so it is still anybody's guess as to where exactly it will end up. At any rate, we are prepared...Tessie bought us a few extra 5 gallon gas cans and filled them up yesterday because we are expecting gasoline prices to go up...especially if the storm tracks a bit northerly. As soon as it was announced that it would be entering the Gulf of Mexico, the price of a barrel of crude jumped up 96 cents per barrel at the mere suggestion. Hopefully no major cities will be hit, and no refineries either, and the fuel prices will remain at a manageable rate...well somewhat manageable anyways.
The bad news is, regardless of where Dean goes, there are 2 or 3 more tropical waves behind it coming across the Atlantic...so Dean may well be the "advanced party" for more to come. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

Well, we're all breathing easy over the hurricane now. It appears now...for the moment anyhow...that it is going to make landfall well to our south down in Mexico. Yesterday the evacuations were put on hold so I'm sitting out here in my usual offshore location just sort of standing by...surfing the net...watching videos...and getting fat(ter). Looks like this week will wind up in usual fashion with me returning home on Wednesday night.
It IS that time of the year, however, so we won't be letting our guard down. We are definately prepared at home for another threat...got plenty of gasoline and stuff to evacuate if necessary. Hopefully it won't be needed.

Good news... I've been watching the newscasts from the BBC this morning on the net and I saw that it was tracking south of you... lets hope it doesn't do too much damage wherever it hits...
