Hey guys, I've just uploaded two videos of me playing Serenade To A Cuckoo and One For John Gee, both pieces from the This Was album of Jethro Tull.
Serenade is not that good....but nice in some ways. :gimp:
One For John Gee is the one I really like. :)

Jak, I don't know what there is to not like about Serenade...I think I may have detected something that you yourself wouldn't be totally happy with at about 1:30 with one particular phrase, but gosh! YOU BE JAMMIN' MAN! I will agree that One For John G is a bit better, but not because of your playing...I just like that song better...HAHAHA. It's really cool to see you at work! Thanks for sharing!

I agree...whats not to like?? I must have ran these 5 times each. Very nice Jak! Its a pleasure to see you play. Very enjoyable. Thanks for posting these. :yourock:
Hey...if you're one for requests.... Can you play Dharma For One?

Haha! Yeah, ok, it's on my list now. One of the next ones will be "Eurology", you'll see and hear that this one is a joy to play. Ok, Dharma...I might as well do it now, so if it all works well you'll see one or two new videos today.
Off I go.....:wait:

Keeewwwelllllll!
By the way, I just heard your test track on "Nothing is Easy". You nailed that one my friend!!!

:) The "Nothing Is Easy" thing is my first try to do something with nearly all the instruments I can (in some cases barely) play so far.
I laid down the project for a little while now because just as I started having fun with it, my girlfriend left me (I think that was about 4 weeks ago now), and I sort of couldn't work on it for a while. But I think now the time is right to do something here. There are so many fixes to do on nearly every part, and the guitar-solos are the hardest thing for me...but step by step it'll become some sort of a nice track. Just gotta do something. :whip2:

I think it sounds really good the way it is. FWIW...if you keep working at it to the point where its perfect, it sometimes makes the tune too mechanical sounding. I learned that the hard way when I did "From The Beginning", and earlier on with "Hoedown". Hoedown was great but it was played against a metronome and I went through great lengths to get the timing spot on. A single comment made by some asshole on HomeRecBBS got me looking into this issue.
Our next track Nutrocker, Dave and I played against the original and the track sounds more "live" realistic.
Its hard to judge when you are hip deep in the production. Sometimes its good to drop it for a week, and then listen to it again. Dave and I refer to it as "The forest through the trees" syndome :)
If you listen closely to any well produced track, you will hear differences in timing. Just last night I noticed those in several studio produced Grand Funk Railroad tunes, and it adds to the grittiness of the recording. I guess its just a matter of molding it right, and I imagine it would differ from tune to tune.
For Nothing Is Easy, my first instinct would be to give it a "played live in a club" feel. For a tune like Pirates, I would want it timed as closely as possible with just ever so minor differences.
Just a few thoughts. Its sounding really great and you should be proud. Again, FWIW, I think that Larry would be a perfect choice for vocals on this.

Yeah, I did ask Larry to do the vocals on it once it's finished.
And I also noticed the changes in the timing of the studio version of Nothing is easy. I tried to get to that by just slowing the track down or fasten it up at the points where I felt that the timing is different.
I even thought of learning the basic keyboard things of Nothing Is Easy to make it sound better on some parts, but I finally decided that it has to work with guitar, bass, flute and drums.

Jak....frickin' cool!! This is the first chance I've had to play these, and Dharma was particularly good... those notes leading in after the first drum break - good stuff matey!
p.s. really nice to see you 'at the office' as it were.

Now...THAT WAS AWESOME!!!! Holy crap! With your style I just knew that you would sound good on this.
This was the very first tull song I ever heard. I've always loved it. Jak...awesome man..I really mean it!
:wild:
You make it look so effortless.

Now you need to learn how to play it on one leg with a top hat on!!!!
Im with graham..that high note coming out of the drum break really punches!
EDIT... If you ever mix out a flute only mp3 for that please email it to me. Id love to try to play bass over it.

Really appreciate it, thanks to you all!
MarkE: I'll keep it in mind so I can do the "flute only" thing at the next recording session.

Jak...that Dharma for One KICKS ASS!! I will agree with all previous comments...it gave me those proverbial goose pimples when you hit that one note after the first break! WHEWWWWW! I FREAKIN LOVE IT!

Hey guys, this is a new one. It's called Eurology and it's my favourite "clean" piece for flute.
Hope you enjoy it.

It's a bit dark, but I made this one with my new cheap cam and it seems that the vids get darker when loading them up at YouTube. Hope that it gets better at the next ones.

Here's another one, especially for Larry.
Has some scratches and some points where I kinda forgot what or when to play.

By the way: I'm really sorry guys, the mic isn't ready yet, and it's not expected to being finished in the next time because some of the necessary parts are still missing.
Had to do something in the meantime, this is it. :-)

OUTSTANDING!!! Now the pressure is on me to actually learn this song...HAHAHA. Well, actually no pressure, because I've always wanted to get around to learning it in the first place, but now I have motivation.
Unfortunately I'm up to my ass in alligators here in Lafayette, Louisiana. I think I probably made a mistake by suggesting a Christmas video tune with TSO's Carol of the Bells...I think I will still be able to hamer out some guitar work for it but I'm still bowed-up with this IFR helicopter transition stuff. Had my first day in the flight sim today...it wasn't all that bad, but it wasn't pretty either. Tomorrow has alot of potential to be brutal so I needs to get back to the books and plan a flight for 0600 in the morning.
Peace, Out!

Hey Jak...I had a little time to mess around with my computer this afternoon and I put this little bit together of Songs From The Wood. The video is sort of silly but hey, it's all good. Of all the flautists I've seen or heard who play Tull songs, I think YOU are the best and I am very happy you put your Tull chops on my rendition of this song. My voice is still messed up but is getting better. As soon as I am able I will sing Nothing Is Easy for you. Cheers!

Hey, great video! Yeah, it really is funny at some points, but why not? :)
And I like that you took some pictures out of my vids to put this together. I just watched it once and right before my first note I thought: "Ok, heeere comes the photo with the hat again." :-) The element of surprise was on your side, Mister.
Good job!

Hey guys!
Just wanted to tell you that I've got me some recording tools from a dear friend of mine. Finally I've got a little mixer who gives out a good and clean audio signal to my computer. Today I've tried out playing the flute through the same mic with which I recorded "Bouree" for EMP. The sound is much better and I've recorded something with it. You can find it on my YouTube channel (it's still uploading, but be sure to check if something new is on entitled "Assisting Ian Anderson").
Also, there are some other new things on, mostly guitar and vocal stuff, mostly done before I got the new equipment....so the quality is mostly bad.
Maybe you'll like on or two of the vids.
Ps.: I'll wait till I got the flute-mic to record the stuff for EMP, it really should be ready in the near future....I hope. I really do apologize for not having done anything in the last month.

Jak, you are DA MAN! Hey the new rig sounds pretty good. The next thing you need to work on is your lighting equipment...HAHAHA.
Your flute playing is excellent my friend. I haven't forgotten about the vocal track that I owe you. My voice is almost back to normal...I'm about 95%. I'll get it for you soon as I can.
