I had to take the time out to post something here as this was the only topic that had never had a post!! We couldn't have that...it was lonely!! :-)

Anyway, my all time vocal tips (1):

PICK YOUR TIME - never try and record a vocal first thing in the morning. Like the rest of your body, your voice needs to acclimatise to being a) vertical and b) awake. I find that around mid-day is ideal - use the early morning to warm up instead.

CHECK YOUR STATUS - make sure that you don't try and sing while under the influence of any form of 'man-flu'. Previously melodic 'Greg Lake style' choruses will quickly degenerate into resembling Roger Chapman 'Burlesque' to finally hit rock (without the roll) bottom with Lee Marvin and 'IWBUAWS!!'.

DON'T LUBRICATE TOO MUCH - whatever you do don't take too much water on board to lubricate the old tubes. You'll only serve to fill up the nether regions at an alarming rate and will then only be interrupting the recording sessions by your endless visits to the bathroom. The constant sound of the flush heard in the recording engineer's headphones will eventually piss him off as well! :-)

Off to bed shortly, so more to follow......
