The work has begun this weekend on "Big Mo". Its a 1/350 scale resulting in about a 31" long hull.

I decided to use standard navy colors as this ship was in commission until 1992. Hull will be a special mixed "red lead", black at waterline and haze gray. Decks will be special mixed dark gray "non skid" and all superstructure components in haze grey.

Shit....I swore I'd never again paint a Navy ship, but...here I am :cu1:

This is a beautiful kit by Tamiya with LOTS of detail. I'm really looking forward to the build.

I spent last night scraping the seam line from the bottom of the hull. The main deck is three pieces. I have just started puttying the gaps. I plan on painting is as it is and then adding the upper decks and detail as I go along.

I will post in progress pics as the project continues.

Yes, I do blame him!!! It was him and his goddamn Gato :lau:

Seriously folks....been contimplating a ship for a while. Anyway....the first progress pics...

Because of the paint scheme, I plan on building this from the bottom up, one deck at a time.

I shot the entire hull in white primer, which is essential for large masking jobs.
Next, I shot haze gray at the top of the hull sides and specific portions of the main deck. The deck itself will be dark grey "non skid" as the Navy likes to call it. Difficulty is all walls, ladders, bollards etc etc etc are haze gray so painting will be a real challenge.
On the hull sides, the lower half will be shot in navy red lead and a black waterline stripe will be added last.

I wish I got some pics with the hull in full white...it looked like a hsopital ship.

By the way....the first pic shows the ship sitting on the plans for my next tank project now that the Pershing is complete. It is a Kraut Nashorn, a very highly detailed 500pc kit.
