Hey Jak, check this out man!

Some of you may or may not be aware that this year marks Tull's 40th Anniversary. From everything I've read about it so far it appears that Ian has been inviting as many former Tull members to join in as are able and willing to do so. I read where Barriemore Barlow made a surprise appearance at one of their UK concerts for TAAB, and I don't know who else from the former members has made a showing at this point.

HOWEVER...here is a video clip that is very intriguing. There is a Jethro Tull Tribute band in the UK called Dayglo Pirates, and their front man, a guy named Paul Forrest, does a great Ian Anderson impersonation. He is so good at it that Tull invited him to perform "With You There To Help Me" with them. Watch this video, it'll kick your ass!

I can see this sort of a thing happening with Jak. Wouldn't that be neater than shit???

I don't know why but whenever I previewed this post that video was showing up in the preview, but it doesn't seem to be working after it's posted. Soooooo...in case you don't see a video window in this post go here to watch it:

Hey Larry!

I've been kept up to date by the german fans on Laufi's Jethro Tull Board http://www.laufi.de/board/ . Some of them traveled to most of the UK concerts and always wrote about them a few days later in the forum.

There was a special guest on almost every concert. Mick Abrahams was there (twice I think), Clive Bunker (also twice or even three times...??), Barrie Barlow, Dave Pegg, Johnathan Noyce, and a number of guest who haven't been Tull members in the past such as Paul Forrest (you've mentioned it), Anna Phoebe and many others.

It was reported that Martin and Mick did kind of a guitar battle during Locomotive Breath (there is a little video on YouTube where you can see a minute or so of it), and I wish I could have been there.

The highlight of this tour for me is that the band plays Dharma for One and One For John Gee. If you're interested, I have an audience recording (audio) of one of the UK shows.

My turn to see them will be on the 19th of July. They just make one appearance in Austria this year and I'm not going to miss this one, No Sir!

Hey Jak...the 19th of July is getting closer :D

I want to share some videos here of a friend of mine from youtube named Rob Martino...he is also on myspace. The first video of his I saw was of him playing Wond'ring Aloud, and the thing that made it such an usually entertaining piece was that he was playing it on a Chapman Stick. I had never heard of a Chapman Stick before I saw his video...it is truly an interesting instrument.

This is a video of Rob playing One Brown Mouse...

Now for a little Slipstream...

And lastly...Wond'ring Aloud...

Rob has some very nice original compositions on his Chapman Stick posted on his youtube page...check him out when you get the chance.

The show was fantastic. Though Ian's voice (as we all know) isn't getting better it was still a great evening.

The support group played a set that seemed to be endless, they mostly played Austropop. I think it was a local act, called "Extra-Combo" or something like that.
After at least one hour of lighting problems Tull finally appeared and David Goodier played the opening bass riff for My Sunday Feeling.

The Setlist was really cool, the only song I've missed was "One For John Gee" which they played in the UK this year on most of the concerts.

But it was all there: A New Day Yesterday, Nursie, Too Old To...., With You There To Help Me, A Song For Jeffrey and many others. The ultimate Highlight of the show was Dharma For One. They played it with such power and it just blew my mind. Though the sound of the band wasn't that good this evening, they just sounded great on this song. Especially for that song Ian built a new version of the infamous Claghorn which was featured on the original recording. Just some kind of bamboo flute with a saxophone mouthpiece attached on the top. Doane Perry did a killer drumsolo here. Unfortunately we couldn't see him most of the time because he was always hiding behind his huge drumset, you never really saw him play. But he was awesome as always.

We stood in the front row, just about two meters away from Ian.

David Goodier and John O'Hara got a lot of my attention. David made grimaces and he really moved on stage, sometimes it seemed as if he wanted to jump around on the stage, and that strongly reminded me of Jeffrey Hammond. But at the same time he was calm and nearly always in the background.

John was the coolest guy on stage. He mostly played a very subtle keyboard and supported the band perfectly. He has his very own special stage persona. Really into the groove of every song, you can see that he's enjoying it. An unforgettable moment was when he played the keyboard intro to Locomotive Breath. The band was about to play the Em,G,D,Em that comes once after the intro with Ian running on the stage, and just before that he shouted "YEEEAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!" really loud. I never saw him doing anything like that before, and I loved it. That's one of the strongest pictures that comes in my mind when I think about the evening.

It was a great show.
