I stumbled across this series this evening while I was looking for something else to share...lol. This is just TOO damn good. This was a documentary which was aired on the BBC in 1979 and it gives us some really cool, and quite rare, glimpses of Tull on stage, behind the scenes, in the studio, on the road, and in their private lives as well. I think this is my absolute favorite line up of players...

Ian Anderson - Flute, Acoustic Guitar
Martin Barre - Guitar
John Glascock - Bass
Barriemore Barlow - Drums
John Evans - Piano, Hammond Organ, Synth
David Palmer - Portative Organ, Pipe Organ, Synth

There are actually only 5 clips to this series, however the 5th clip cuts off before the ending...so when clip 5 gets to about 4:45 (when Barriemore Barlow says "We try very hard...") stop that clip and move down to clip 6 which will pick up the program at the same point and continue right through to the actual ending.

Points of greatest interest for me personally were clips 3 and 4 because we get to catch a glimpse of a Tull song as it is being composed. The song is Dark Ages from the Stormwatch LP. We get to see them in the studio composing and recording the basic music track...we see Ian singing the vocal track without hearing the backing...and in clip 4 we get to watch David Palmer scoring for strings and such using a portable cassette player...stop/rewind/play/write...stop/rewind/play/write...stop/rewind/play/write...damn if computers haven't made this part of song writing easier!!! LOL

Hope you enjoy this...this is really good.

Larry - This was really enjoyable! Thanks for posting all of the clips. I should be in bed but I had to keep on watching. I love the flute solo in I think clip 3, where he's snorting and keeps repeating the first bars of the fugue of Toccata and Fugue.

Hey, I was pretty psyched to see that Barriemore used to play the blue Ludwig Vistalites like I have!

...which is yet one more thing that I really like about you... ;) I had planned to make a comment about the blue Ludwigs to you but it slipped my mind. I'm glad you saw it. :D
