Im gearing up for EMP '09, so I decided to add a few critical pieces of equipment to the hawk studio rack. I wanted to improve mastering so I added a 1) a compressor, 2) a dual 31 band EQ and 3) a patch bay.

Im currently rewiring the entire rack to handle this mess. Here is an image of the full rack. Top to bottom..

Yamaha 16 channel mixer
4 channel DI box
Fender digital tuner
Stereo tube preamp (I built this)
Quadra Fuzz (I also built this)
Guitar amp modeler
Vocal harmonizer
Tube compressor
31 channel stereo EQ
48 point patch bay

I love it when stuff lights up!!!!

And oh yeah... I couldnt resist a new headphone distribution box, shown here sitting on top of my Gemini amp. These components will be installed in a smaller desktop rack.

The new patch bay allows me to rewire stuff easily. I can reconfigure the entire rack in a matter of seconds. I did a few test masters and the compression and tube warmth are very noticeable. OH YEAH BABY!!!!

I cant complete this until I order some cables, which I'll do tonight. I should have it complete by Saturday. I'm psyched!!!

That's really frickin' amazing - thanks for sharing! Although, in all honesty, I have probably the same degree of confusion that you guys do with my synths... I can recognize the patch bay, but beyond that it's just a pretty mass of blinking lights and buttons/knobs. :cu1:

Now if I can just get this month behind me... I don't like being this busy (and, by the time evening rolls-around, I have no desire/energy to learn anything new... heck, even play).

The one good thing in all of this? I definitely will be in Houston the latter half of next week - and unless something goes horribly, terribly wrong with the computer installation, LC and I will definitely have a chance to get together (and we promise photodocumentation). Another epic EMP meeting is just days away! :woot2:

David,

Im like that too. Once I get home from a long tiring day I cant really do anything except perhaps sit in front of the tv. I cant be creative or even play well when Im that tired.

You and Larry are getting together!!! how cool is that??

Hey Mark... its looking good! Beats my virtual studio anyday!...lots of lovely knobs and LED's to tinker with! I think the only thing we have in common apart from Cakewalk, is the Behringer headphone amp... I got mine last year and its really performed well!

Take care - G.

okay, the saga continues....

Ive taken the next step in the upgrade path. Im bringing in ProTools hardware and software and will most likely switch over to it. However, the computer Im using has two physical drives configured in RAID. Well, ProTools doesnt support RAID.

To make a long story short, I am taking a full backup as we speak and I will reformat the system to give it a dedicated audio drive. This is what everyone recommends anyway.

Bottom line...Im down for several days to a week as I do this deed, and reinstall everything and get it up and running. That includes Sonar with all its various clusterfuck add ons. Yes I will still be running Sonar to some degree, and, all the old projects are in it.

Im between projects anyway. here we go...

Oh yeah...I finally purchased studio monitors :) :) :)
