This thread could also be posted on the guitar and bass building boards, but I will post it here even though it could be related to building a new axe, but perhaps not necessarily. People use after-market add-ons to their gear on a regular basis without rebuilding their axes from the ground-up. And for many guitarists and bassists, switching to after-market pickups is pretty common.
What I am about to share with you here is a revolutionary new pickup design by Lace. It is an incredible departure from the traditional pickup designs, and after you watch the first video posted below you will see that Lace has several non-traditional designs using traditional materials.
But the ALUMITONE pickup is a completely radical new pickup design which is totally non-traditional and utilizes non-traditional materials. It's main framework is made of aluminum!!! It reportedly has an increased sonic range over other traditional pickups, it is quiet, and it weighs less due to it's construction. It is said that a Les Paul equipped with Alumitones will weigh about 1/2 pound less than one equipped with traditional humbuckers.
So without any further ado I will show a few pics and videos. The first 2 videos are from Lace, the first being sort of a catalogue of their pickup designs, and the second focuses solely on the Alumitone design. The following videos are demo videos which give you a pretty good idea of how it sounds, both clean and dirty.

This is from an ebay store advert I received in my email today...and is what actually caused me to investigate this pickup. This is a "pre-loaded" Strat pickguard with 3 humbucker-sized Alumitone pickups installed.

I did a little research on price. The price of the Alumitone is pretty much in the same price range as other Lace pickups...which are a bit more pricey than Seymour Duncan.
3-pack Single coil size $169.99 - $199.99 thru Musician's Friend
1 Humbucker size $99.99 - $109.99 thru Musician's Friend
